My London 2012 Experience

Closing Ceremony Treats Sunday 9th Sep

On the day of the Paralympic Closing Ceremony, my friend Jools and I went out for lunch to James Martin restaurant in Leeds, The Leeds Kitchen. Very tasty. Wore part of my uniform as on the Monday was the parade through London. Unfortunately I didn't get a ticket so thought I would wear my uniform today instead! Brought lots of attention! Was a lovely warm day, had a blast, however too much red wine I think!

Thumping Thursday!

Gold galore! Sarah Storey is officially the most equally decorated Paralympian. Her greatest ride at Brands Hatch. Knowing we saw Sarah at the velodrome break her world record makes me so proud. Barney, her husband, also a medallist, just awesome. Then the stadium went on fire with Hannah Cockroft on the 200m from Halifax, then Werewolf Dave Weir eins his 3rd gold in the 800m, with the marathon still to come!!
And finally the crowd screaming "Peacock, Peacock!" and Jonnie Peacock wins gold in the 100m! More tears, so proud. The National Anthem will ring out again. The Paras are going to leave a magnificent legacy, these athletes are so inspiring. I am lovin' the Paras. Wish I was volunteering again, although I am so full of joy knowing that I am part of London 2012. Silver for Dan Greaves in the discus. GB are smashing it!!!

Weir Army!

Gold to Dave Weir in the 1500m....screaming at the tv!!! More tears! WOW!

Velodrome velocity, with a hint of royal 30th Aug 2012

What an atmosphere in here, great seats, we're in! Crystal Lane and Sarah Storey do us proud. Pure excellence.

Para World Records

Watching Paul Blake in the men's 400m crossing the line, brilliant silver medal, fantastic! These Paralympics are the best man!

And there's more....!!!!!

Well I didn't want to add a final post, now I don't! On the train to London to the Paralympics, got tickets for the velodrome tomorrow! Thanks Karen and Paul xxxx

Closing Day Antics

Had a brilliant last day. Friendly relaxed atmosphere, worked with Emily and Raj, Team BMX. I swapped tickets to work with Emily, then we found out Raj was with us too, result! Emily and I even contemplated leaving at dinner. However, come 6pm we were having a blast. We had just been on Sky News with Emma Birchley! Fame at last! And the crowds were just as dressed up...

Star spotting! 12th Aug 2012

A couple of famous faces that attended the closing ceremony. One of my fellow Gamesmakers did not recognise Yoko and therefore as we were on the gate, stopped Yoko by asking "ticket holders only past this point. Please can I see your ticket"....bless her, she was gently pushed to one side! Yoko Ono had specially produced the version of Imagine that was played in the ceremony. Some of my fellow Gamesmakers had not heard of Yoko or John Lennon and a couple said they had heard of The Beatles! I reckon it's an age thing! This was a great shift for me, right at the point everyone was entering the park. Smiles, chatting, dancin'....all good.

Opening Ceremony Pics

At last I am sharing these pics. I watched it again yesterday on tv, just as amazed as I was originally! Bought the album as well. Sat next to Tracy, a fellow volunteer who was as excited as me! We were both on the verge of crying, little did we know that there would be many more tears shed over the following weeks....

Special Saturday!

Had lunch at 'Dinner at Hestons' at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge with Natalie. It was beautiful food and great company. My treat to Natalie for letting me stay with her during the Olympics. It was well up there as one of the top restaurants I have ever been to. Great choice Nat.
Then we met friends in Soho....dancin and drinks, with Jo, Juffsy, Nicola and Donna. Wild wild wild....crazy people! Walk of shame home across Waterloo Bridge at 6.30am!
